October: National Physical Therapy Month

Each year in October the American Physical Therapy Association sponsors National Physical Therapy Month.  The purpose of the APTA promoting Physical Therapy month is to raise awareness for the profession of physical therapy and how we can make a positive difference in the lives of our patients. Each year a theme is chosen highlighting the rare conditions and sports injuries we treat, how we can help curtail the use of pain meds, etc. This year’s theme is #ChoosePT.  With this theme they are hoping to spread awareness of the wide range of things that Physical Therapists can treat, how you have a choice in your healthcare, and how Physical Therapy can assist you to function to the best of your ability.

-While many people think of Physical Therapists as being able to only treat joint or muscle pain, we are educated and qualified to treat many conditions from head to toe.  From post-concussion symptoms, vertigo, headaches, and jaw pain to any foot and ankle related pain and everything in between, we can help!

-#ChoosePT also means that instead of taking medication, getting injections or potentially avoidable surgeries, why not try Physical Therapy instead?  Did you know that about 54% of people over the age of 60 have partial rotator cuff tears on an MRI? Maybe instead of rushing into surgery, trying PT may help you to avoid having surgery at all!  Just because something is “torn” or has degeneration around it doesn’t always mean it requires surgery!

-Another article reported that there is little evidence to suggest that drug treatments are effective in treating herniated discs. Including limited evidence to the effectiveness of NSAIDs or other prescription-based pain medications in treating discogenic back pain.  If there is limited evidence for these intervention methods, why not #ChoosePT as your first stop for back pain and other injuries?

-To our Lattimore family, #ChoosePT also takes on another meaning. As a  family-owned physical therapy business that has grown to 25 locations in 4 counties, we are now one of the leading PT providers in the Greater Rochester area. When you think of attending Physical Therapy or when a doctor refers you to physical therapy remember that you have a choice on where you go for PT.  You are allowed to dictate your own healthcare and choose the providers that you see. With 25 locations around the area, all major insurances accepted, and evening appointments available we hope that in the Rochester area when you think of #ChoosePT you don’t think of anyone else besides your neighborhood Lattimore location!  For the location nearest you head to www.lattimorept.com or call 1-888-PT-ROCHS!
